dead end cemetery

ah...yes.  more halloween bash 2006 pages!

This is bright idea #5 - color pop!  Can ya tell I'm loving Studio Calico's February 2013 class, Bright Ideas?

For this one, I used Classic Calico Vol 3 items, Front Row add-on kit items (Junior Mints & Big Screen) and a Sally Sketch (SBSC311).

One of the Boy Scouts came dressed as the grim reaper.  LOL.  So he hid in the cemetery & I took pictures.  I love that skeleton pirate with the grass hair!

Here's the list of supplies:
  • Paper: SU! Sahara Sand, SC Classic Calico Vol 3 Geometry, Theresa Collins Now & Then Floral (Big Screen add-on)
  • Accessories:  Enamel Dots (Theresa Collins Now & Then from Junior Mints add-on), chipboard arrows (Studio Calico Snippets), thickers and letters (Studio Calico Classic Calico Vol 3), veneer speech bubbles (Studio Calico)
Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo'valous day!

Pirates of the RINEY*TOWN

Um...yep...Halloween Bash 2006 and the theme was PIRATES!

I made some decorations that year...two of which became my all time favorite Hallween decorations.  My scarecrow pirate...a.k.a. Capt'n Jack...sadly...passed away this past Halloween.  He now lives in the landfill.  LOL.  What happened was with his weakened legs, he finally keeled over in a very strong wind.  The rum didn't help.  However, the anchors...have had one coat of paint since and grace the walls of my shop porch!  That's the pirate house.  LOL.

Check it out!

This is one of those pages that use things from fifty million kits and shop items...and stash.  LOL.  YES.  This is one of those layouts that result from a CRAFTSPLOSION!  Or maybe result in a craftsplosion.  In either case...that's all cleaned up.  **wink**

I really do love Studio Calico's classes.  The anchors were CUT IT OUT class materials and the OMW! outline of the Commonwealth of Kentucky is a cut file from the current BRIGHT IDEAS class.  Kinsey Wilson created upteen cut files...all the US states + several countries!

And this page was inspired by BRIGHT IDEA #3 - Map it!

The anchors were cut from POW Black Glitter paper, pierced and then hand stitched down with the AC Natural Jute.

Kit items.
  • From the BLOCK PARTY Scrapbook Kit: Thickers, Elf in Natural (American Crafts); Arrow / Geotag Thickers (Studio Calico).
  • From the Pioneer Drive Add-on: Micro Monogram Letters in Black (Basic Gray).
  • From the FRONT ROW Card Kit: Jute, NaturaL (American Crafts).
  • From the FRONT ROW Scrapbook Kit: die cut labels (Studio Calico).
  • From the Popcorn Add-on: Wood Chip Bubbles (Freckled Fawn).
Other supplies.
  • Paper: SU! Nautical Expedition, SU! Basic Black, SU! Paciffic Point, POW Black Glitter Paper.
  • Accessories: Cameo, Zig .05 Millenium in Pure Black & Pure Red, Hearts & Arrows Veneer (Studio Calico), Tiny Attacher, Pop Dots, Glue Dots
I have used lots & lots of favorite products!  I finally used that SU! Nautical Expedition paper I have loved for so long.  LOL.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo'valous day!

U R the Cat's MEOW

This is a layout featuring the cat applique stained glass quilt Mom made and entered into the Lincoln Days quilt show!  A gorgeous quilt.  Not sure the layout does it justice!

I used one of Sally's fab sketches, SBSC293.  I changed it up a little bit.  And yeah, I know my "THE" is a little lopsided.  LOL.  Sliding right of the page, eh?  I can fix that!  I loved using the doily as a journaling "block".

Hope you enjoyed the page AND the quilt.  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo'valous day!

Aqua Sparkles

I feel like a 12 x 12 double page layout!  :-D

I'm loving these colors...the aqua blue and the olive green.  They are very refreshing in this heat wave.  We're supposed to have heat indices of up to 105 degrees F today & tomorrow.  I'm still working on my challenge to ME - to use up Provo Craft Super Slab #10.  Ya know...I liked that slab when I bought it...might as well USE it, right?  I also dug into my stash for prima flowers.  I have oodles of those paper flowers, but rarely use them.  They were just the embellishment this DPS needed.  The primas are attached with the rhinestones from the SU! Pretties kit.  The sketch is Sally's SBSC228 .

Not sure what photos I will use on this layout, but it sure is pretty, refreshing eye candy for now.

Aquatic Animals

There were some really interesting individual exhibits of aquatic animals at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies.  Here's a page with a few of them:

Since DS plays Playstation while I scrap, I always share my completed page with him before I photograph.  His reaction...WOW!  And a big smile!  Coming from a 15 year old...fantastic, super!  Now...not sure if it was for the photos or the page.  In either case, love how this page came together.

Using a Sally Sketch (SBSC116) and the Basic Grey Archaic Collection, I was able to create a page featuring three very different aquatic animals.  I purchased the Basic Grey Archaic Collection a couple of years ago and have been steadily using it.  I've really enjoyed this kit.  I still have several sheets left.

Life in the Coral Reef...

...is beautiful.  What vibrant colors!  It was very interesting watching live coral...move...float...it's like when you dip your hair in the swimming pool and it floats...

OK.  The hair is still attached to your head.  Nothing spoils a good mood like a loose hair ANYWHERE!  Yuck!

I was captivated by this little yellow fish!  I took THREE pictures of him.  The exhibit tank was quite wide and in the other corner we could watch the coral capture the smaller fish.  Interesting.  The coral emits something like a sticky substance to capture fish.  Pretty cool.  Sometimes the fish would break loose.  That sticky substance must be like caramel or chocolate...the poor fish kept coming back for more.  {sigh}

That's a little alpha!  Teeny tiny!  It's SU! Naturally Serif.  I even dotted the "i".  I do like the alpha...a lot.  I ran the letters through Xyron to attach.  I dotted the "i"'s with Mono Multi.  :-D

We visited the CARGO HOLD Gift Shop...love that name!  I scrapped my patch and the packaging.  I thought the packaging was neat!  It also makes a great transition from this page to the companion page.

The companion page is the page I showed on Monday.  Here they are together:

SUPPLIES for Today's page:
Paper: Cameo Coral, Brushed Silver, Taken with Teal
Accessories: Stampin' Dimensionals, Big Shot, Naturally Serif Alphabet, Xyron, Mono Multi, Sticky Strip

Schooling Fish

School?!?  What school?!?  It's Fall Break.

We took a trip to Gatlinburg TN to visit Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies.  We're on break...fish are still in school.

ROFL!

tee hee

The top photo is a postcard.  I stamped the Modern Label from Favorite Things in Yo Yo Yellow on Yo Yo Yellow...and labeled them Coral Reef Fish.  Wonder what the next page will be?  :-D

That middle picture...psst...is really two pictures.  I had a picture of this aquarium with DS.  But there was that anooying light bulb dot!  So I cut DS out of the other picture and popped him up on this one!  Brilliant?  :-D

I'm really in a silly mood.

Third picture is Mom and DS viewing a tank of "Schooling Fish".  Pretty cool.  They even had a sign at the top..."Schooling Fish".

The tunnel was really nice and very relaxing.  A lady on SCS left me a comment...she said she took her Church youth group to a sleepover at the Aquarium.  They slept in the shark tunnel!  How awesome!  To relax...lay there in your sleeping bag...watching the sharks and rays...so relaxing.  Cool!

I'm really liking the hodge podge of letters.  I ran out of glue dots!  Yikes.  So I got out the Mono Multi.  As I had read...a little dab'll do ya!...I did a little dab and smeared it around.  I love Mono Multi for adhering little chipboard letters!  You gotta try it!  A little dab'll do ya and that little bottle should last forever!

This is a Sally Sketch (SBSC209) just posted on Friday.  I flipped it and omitted some elements.  That's allowed.  And I had a good reason.  Here's the companion page:

Details in THIS post.  Now together...

Two stand alone pages...two stand along titles...that go together quite nicely, I think.

Whatcha think?

Our day at the aquarium...

...wouldn't not have been complete without a ride through the shark / ray tunnel!  Awesome...fantabuluous!  Wonderful!

This has to be the neatest thing.  Like walking into a fish tank.  The sharks..."regular sharks" and "saw nose sharks"...stingrays...beautiful...swimming above us.  The neatest thing...we didin't even have to WALK.  There was a conveyor belt that just carried us along.

I picked up the designer paper and the die cut shark the day before our aquarium visit at the Scrapbook Superstore in Sevierville TN.  I found a Sally Sketch (SBSC 174) with circular elements and this just came together.  I was able to use my SU! Circle Scissors!  Love that tool!  I wish it was bigger.  Hahaha...I want some 12 inch circles and rings.  {pout, pout}

The journaling block is from the retired SU! Journaling Fun...one of the very first SU! sets I purchased.  This is the first time I've actually used the spiral journaling stamp to journal...pretty cool!  I used some SU! Brushed Sliver CS, paired with Taken with Teal and a pinch of Cameo Coral.

Supplies:
Stamps: SU! Journaling Fun (retired)
Paper: Reminisce At the Aquarium, SU! Brushed Silver, SU! Taken with Teal, SU! Cameo Coral
Ink: SU! Taken with Teal Classic

It's been a very long time...

...since I've made a scrapbook page!  Boy, it feels good to be back!  :-D  And on my 40th birthday, too!

We just returned from a trip to Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg TN.  This trip was my 40th birthday present from Mom.  Does Mom spoil me or what?  I had a great time!  One place we visited was Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies...I should have several pages to share once I have these scrapped.

First off...the Amazon Basin exhibit.  Holy Cow!  There's all kinds of "friendly" fish in the Amazon Basin!  Red bellied piranhas!  It said...they only attack sick or injured animals; can attack humans when HUNGRY or threatened.  Good thing they feed these at the aquarium!

SUPPLIES:
Stamps: SU! Favorite Things
Paper: SU! Pumpkin Pie, SU! DSP
Ink: SU! Pumpkin Pie Classic
Accessories: Tim Holtz Grungeboard (arrows), Adirondack Alcohol Ink (Lettuce), Double Churned Chipboard Letters, Unknown Chipboard Letters, SU! Fire Circle Brads, Sticky Strip, Crop-a-dile, Black Stampin Write Journaling Pen

Grandma's Favorite Color

...is purple. Mine is green! I love the new Zinna Collection from The Little Yellow Bicycle. Diane selected this collection to be featured in the Summer 2009 SCS Stampin' Flybabies Craft Kit! I liked it so well, I went and bought MORE Zinna Collection items! I knew I wanted to scrap the pics of Grandma's 60th birthday celebration using these papers. Might scrap my wedding as well. Need more papers...

Here's my first page using items from this kit.

Looking at it now...not sure I like those purple pearls...oh well....it was a doozy making this page. gosh. Notice that the paper had a definite up and down? The page was supposed to have the pic and journaling block at the bottom. See that bird in the middle of the page? He was UPSIDE DOWN! Holy cow. So I very carefully destroyed my picture in my attempt to remove it...I use sticky strip. OY! Better to destroy a picture I CAN reprint than a precious DP style I only had ONE sheet! I reprinted my picture and remembered to flip the layout 180 degress. Much better.

My favorite part about this layout is...look at the pattern on both pieces of DP...they are exactly the same, just in different colors! Sally (Salster) on SCS had the perfect sketch...SBSC115.

Love that picture of Grandma & Phillip. Phillip is the only great-grandson for Grandma and Granddad. The rest of 'em are girls!

Supplies:
Paper - The Little Yellow Bicycle Zinna Collection
Accessories - The Little Yellow Bicycle Zinna Collection, sticky strip, paper snips

Inspecting the JD 6600 Combine

DH & I puchased a combine in October 2004. DS was 10. He was 10. He did that crooked finger waving..."Come Here Mom!". I caught it on camera!

I love this page. It was inspired by Sally's Sketch SBSC178 and Jennipher's Inspiration Challenge IFC39 to mix patterned paper from different vendors. I'm using a plaid with a floral. Plaid is from SU! Prestwick and floral is a K & Company Girl Scout print. Same papers from yesterday's layout, but with a different emphasis.

A 52sketches52weeks DT member provided a tutorial on ribbon pleating. I had to try this with staples. You'll have to hit the stapler H A R D. Make sure your fingers are out of the way!

But boy, ain't it purty!

Here's today's page and yesterday's page together.

SUPPLIES:
Paper - SU! Textured Night of Navy, SU! Prestwick, K & Company Girl Scout line, PTI white
Accessories - SU! Button Latte, SU! Chocolate Chip Corduroy Buttons, miscellaneous SU! buttons, glue dots, ruler, white gel pen, sticky strip, Comic Sans MS font, stapler, May Arts navy 1/2" grosgrain ribbon

Inside the Historic State Theatre

As I mentioned yesterday, the State Theatre had undergone years of renovation and it was finally completed. The grand re-opening was Mother's Day 2009. Here's a peek inside.

When they were working in the theatre, they uncovered murals. Flanking the stage are two murals featuring a Greek goddess holding the mask of tragedy and on the other side, the mask of comedy. On each side wall of the auditorium is what looks like a giant movie reel, decorated with flourishes. The ceiling is striped in various shades of green and burgundy. The motifs from the walls are repeated in relief at intervals in two rows down the ceiling

The layout is inspired by a Sally Sketch - SBSC 191. Cardstock colors are SU! Baha Breeze, Night of Navy and Really Rust. I punched the Night of Navy with the SU! Spiral Punch. My intention was to mimic a strip of film.

My favorite part of this layout are the flourishes at the top! I traced the negative left from some Tim Holtz grungeboard flourishes with an SU! Night of Navy Stampin' Write Marker and filled it in. I accented certain areas of the flourish with a white gel pen. The flourishes mimic the flourishes on the wals inside the auditorium.

Titling is SU! Night of Navy craft ink stamped on PTI White. Lettering is attached with pop dots.

Here are yesterday's and today's pages together.

There's so much more to tell about the State. I have one more picture and there's a couple more pictures I want to take and include in additional pages on the State Theatre. It was a wonderful part of my life as I grew up and the history of the theatre is rich. I love history.
