Playing with new toys!

I've not grown up. (big grin) I remember my childhood excitement over a new toy or a new anything. Nowadays, I get apprehensive about new electronic toys and appliances - they DO have a learning curve, but I DO love my electronic gadgets. Oh...the conflicting emotions.

However, new SU! toys arrived on Monday. Yippiee! I put together this card for the SU! Team Swap on Sunday.

I love this card! There's no way I can make 13 of these exact same cards. (Twelve for the swap & one for me!) I cut into my 6 x 6 Hostess Prints Pack - there's only two 6 x 6 sheets of that particular pattern. See the strawberry bloom...I'd be B R O K E trying to come up with that many of the exact same bloom, not to mention the Felt Fusion behind the bloom. No worries on the rub ons...I think I have EIGHT packs of those SAB Love & Happiness Rub Ons! There's duplicates of several designs on a sheet. This year's SAB stamp sets just didn't enthuse me, but oh well. It's a good thing I love those Rub Ons!

Since the Tart & Tangy set has four fruits, I've decided to make similar cards with all four fruits, simply changing the color, while using the same type of supplies. I hope it will qualify as 12 swap cards. I'll make four of four designs (three cards of four designs for the swap, one card of each design for me). Guess I better email my upline (the hostess) and see if that will be OK.

Stay tuned for the next fruit.

Here's the recipe:

Stamps: Tart & Tangy
Paper: Wild Wasabi, Whisper White, Hostess Prints Pack
Ink: Real Red, Wild Wasabi
Accessories: SAB Rub Ons (Love & Happiness in Old Olive), Felt Fusions (Old Olive), Pretties Kit, Summer Sun Brads, Red Gingham, Real Red 1/4" Grosgrain, Slit Punch, Circle Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Basic Grey Rub On Tool, Martha Stewart Glue Pen, Chunky Glitter (Occasions Mini '08)
Techniques: Paper Piecing, Glitter, Punch

Long time...no post

I've just been too busy. Weather has been wacky! A couple of days after the tornado, we had an ice storm. Then the following week, sleet. Ugh.

I finally ordered something from the new Spring / Summer SU! Catalog AND preorder from the Occasions Mini. It arrived last night! Along with my order from Ecelctic Paperie - new fun flock and the Basic Grey Rub On Tool. Just in time too...cuz for my SAB sets - I chose ALL rub ons. So I now have 8 sets of the rub ons from the Occasions Mini (holy cow!) I love the new Basic Grey Rub On Tool. It's worth the six dollars!

I was playing with Die Cut Blooms, Summer Time Rub Ons, Tart and Tangy, Flower Fusion and the Chunky Sprinkles. I pulled out some Fire Brads and the Prettys kit. Some of these are elements / supplies I'm using for my card for a SU! Team Swap. I need 12 swap cards for Sunday.

I want to play with my toys! But I'm at work...ya know...the public job. It's tax season and do I need to say more?

EF-2 Tornado

I knew a bad storm was coming Tuesday. It hit on Wednesday morning about 12:30 AM. It woke my husband up at 1:00 AM. We soon learned that a EF-2 touched down twice beginning near Cecilia KY - which is near where we live. We live in the midst of Rineyville and Cecilia, but closer to Rineyville. The twister went up Hwy 62 and hit Central Hardin High School. So there was NO school yesterday. School is in session today, but not at Central Hardin. The sports fields, bleachers, press boxes, fences on the football & baseball fields - gone. The freshman wing heavily damages and the gym roof has several holes in it. ($175K floor)

South Elizabethtown & Downtown did not have electricity for quite a while. News crews commented on how strange it was to drive into the city & there were NO lights. I'm sure that felt really funny. I work on the other side of Elizabethtown, live near Rineyville - so no personal damange. We had no deaths in our area, but the twister cut a 10 mile swath from Cecilia, went back up in the air & came down on the other side of downtown. We had a lot of rain, the ground is really soft.

And we just had a twister in January of 2006 on the north end of the county. We were in Wal-mart when this New Years Day sucker hit. All of a sudden there was a "black alert" or something. I asked what that? TORNADO. Oh ----! My husband was in the truck (in the parking lot) & watched that sucker march across the sky. He had to come into the store to get us. That was one time I wish my cell phone was CHARGED so I could have called him.

Anyway, back to yesterday...this is Hardin County KY. There were deaths in other KY counties and states. I believe Tennessee was the hardest hit - what with college dorms being destroyed and the gas fire. I learned an Elizabethtown resident was living in those dorms that were destroyed. The same storm that hit her hometown, destroys her college dorm.

In neighboring Meade County, Brandenburg (the county seat) has been closed to all but essential personnel. The governor has been here (Elizabethtown) & he said compared to the other areas, the Heartland (that's us) was lucky.

I have been wondering about all my cyberfriends who live in the affected areas. I hope everyone made it through OK.

Bunny!

I had a wish for a Whipper Snapper Bunny. It has been quite a while since I have had a wish from Wish RAK granted. What a pleasant surprise then, yesterday to have received this adorable image in the mail from Peanutbee!

The name of the image is Floppy Bunny from Whipper Snapper. He's adorable. (Have I said that already?) I colored him using SU! Watercolor Wonder Crayons. I also used a watercolor brush I received from my friend Karen in a secret exchange.

After watercoloring the bunny, I sponged Blue Bayou on the outside & mounted the image on Blue Bayou CS. The designer paper is from Basic Grey Two Scoops 6 x 6 paper pad. One design is mounted on Wild Wasabi and the other on Pretty in Pink. The ribbon I received in one of TexasJodyLynn's ribbon shares - it's a 3/4" grosgrain and a 1/4" grosgrain. The sketch is from Sketch Challenge 91 - I flipped the sketch for this card. The focal image is mounted with pop dots.

I used Caramel Latte Tan Fun Flock to accent the bunny, Cotton Candy Stickles for the ears, Sakura Souffle' in Pink for the paw pads. I applied Sakura Glaze in Clear to the nose and the bow. Using glue dots, I attached Peridot Swarovski Crystals to the centers of the diamond pattern in the DP shown in the top panel. The green makes that blue pop.

I love this card - it contains all my favorite things. I love the colors and that adorable bunny!
